The gardens today

After some wonderful weather the garden is coming into its own there are thousands of bulbs in flower everywhere whilst the Magnolia have been the best. Throughout the garden there is a verdant splendour created by the new shoots bursting through.

Once again I have to say a huge thank you to Nigel McCall for his wonderful images

Ribes 'Poky's Pink' flowering for the first time its been a real success especially as it is an ornamental Black currant

The glasshouse border and parterre are just coming to their best as the Tulip displays emerge.

The Skunk cabbage in Pigeon wood have just come to their best and the Bluebells are not far behind

Another new introduction to Pigeon wood pool is this wonderful Primula rosea. It is a close relative of the candelabra types which we grow very many of but it flowers much earlier even before many of the spring bulbs

The Alpinum is starting to come into its own with a myriad of small bulbs complimenting the Magnolia

Pigeon wood is also bursting into life with the Narcissus poeticus being a a real eye catcher at the moment

The Upper walled garden is also coming into full bloom with some eight thousand Tulips come through the emerging shoots of the herbaceous perennials. in this area we are trying to combine purple spring shoots with pink and cream Tulips.
